A strategy is a course of action, including specification of resources required , to attain a specific objective. Usually, it involves setting the future plans for the organization, and its require a comprehensive understanding of organization's resources, environment, and stakeholder.
The characteristics of Strategy may include:
- Strategic decisions are dependent on scope of the organization
- They involve matching of the activities of an organization to its environment
- They affect long-term direction of the organization
- A strategy must also match the activities of an organization to its resourcecapabilities.
According to Michel Porter, the essenceof formulating competitive strategy is relating a company to its environment.'
