How to determine cee tier? ›

If your appliance has this label, here's a quick reference for the tiers: CEE Tier 1 is the equivalent of a standard ENERGY STAR rating, which means it meets minimum requirements for efficiency. CEE Tiers 2, 3, and 4 are more efficient than Tier 1. They're all in the range of ENERGY STAR's “Save More” standards.

Tier 1: It is the basic qualification for a product which represents the top-of-the-line products available on the market. Higher tiers represent better performance standards. Tiers Two, Three, Or Four: Represents a higher grade of energy savings.

CEE Tier 1: To meet this level, a product must qualify as an ENERGY STAR product. CEE Tiers 2, 3, and 4: Meeting these levels means a product is more efficient than ENERGY STAR'S minimum requirements. CEE Advanced Tier: This means a product meets ENERGY STAR'S Most Efficient ranking.

EER is calculated as the ratio of an appliance's cooling capacity (measured in British Thermal Units or BTUs) to its power consumption (measured in watts) under specific test conditions. The higher the EER rating, the more efficient the equipment is at converting electrical energy into cooling power.

The CEE Advanced Tier is the highest rating that a product can achieve in terms of energy efficiency. These products represent the best of the best and are likely to be more expensive than those in lower tiers.

EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio)

EER = Btu / watts. A unit's EER is measured using set indoor and outdoor temperatures, as well as 50% relative humidity. This rating more closely represents a peak load rating versus the seasonal rating offered by SEER. Higher EER equals higher efficiency.

The Act cites products “which meet or exceed the highest efficiency tier (not including any advanced tier)”. The tax credit eligible tier may be Tier 1, 2, or 3, depending on the product category.

Appliances are tested for how much energy they use during typical use. This gives them a rating on a scale of A to G, with A being the most efficient product of its class, and G being the least efficient. Some appliances (e.g. ovens) use an older scale, from A+++ to G, with A+++ being the most efficient.

The energy efficiency of a building is indicated on the EPC by way of an alphabetic scale with A being best and indicating a very energy-efficient building, and G being worst and indicating a very inefficient building.
