8 Plants With Long Growing Seasons – Learn with Experts :-We plant plants that only live in a certain climate or temperature every season and year. Sometimes called “annuals,” these plants grow and bloom for one year before dying.

This “seasonal plant” group includes “annuals” and other perennials that will not overwinter in our 6a zone at the Creation Museum. Most of these plants are grown in Ark Encounter greenhouses.

Big Dipper Elephant Ear :

Big Dipper has tall, purple-black stems that hold a big, gray-green leaf across the middle before they grow. The leaf can hold a lot of water because of this one-of-a-kind property.

It dumps the water when it’s full and then stands back flat to catch more. Interesting! Another interesting thing about this elephant ear is that it spreads with snake-like roots that run above ground.

It’s harder for this type to survive the winter outside in our 6a plant zone, so we usually dig up some of the roots and plant them for the next season.
